Pneumatic Conveying Solutions for Paper Mill Applications

A number of operational challenges that paper mills face can be solved by Jeffrey Rader pneumatic conveying systems. Following are a few examples where pneumatic conveying has solved a common paper mill problem.

Mill is discharging knots to a bunker causing environmental concerns.

Installing a pneumatic system to convey knots to a boiler fuel bin, hog fuel pile or returned to the digester for re-pulping, will eliminate the leachate and disposal problem while providing a payback. Conveying knots pneumatically is a clean and effective method of transporting this type of material.

Mill’s present method of conveying wood fines by belt conveyor is causing dusting problems.

By far and away, the best way to convey wood fines is by pneumatic conveyor. The enclosed system eliminates dusting and the subsequent cleanup/maintenance problems.

Mill wants to convey bark from their de-barking operation to the hog fuel pile or boiler fuel bin.

Bark is typically stringy with high moisture content. Belt conveyors can be used but pneumatic conveyors offer a better, cleaner alternative. Pneumatic conveyors also offer the advantage of some moisture removal during transport.  Lower moisture content means higher boiler efficiency.

Mill wants to convey chips to a digester feed bin/silo but routing a belt conveyor is difficult and cost prohibitive due to high elevation angles and building obstructions.

A pneumatic conveyor is ideally suited for these applications. In most applications, installation costs are well below those for belt conveyors.

Mill wants to convey sludge from the sludge presses to the hog fuel pile for drying and combustion in the boiler.

Even after pressing, moisture content is still high making it an ideal application for pneumatics. In addition, treatment facilities are typically quite a distance away from the fuel pile and boiler making it a costly proposition for belt conveyors.

Mill wants to convey lime or other chemicals from unloading to process.

While this is a specialty application, pneumatics works extremely well here. Contact your Jeffrey Rader product specialist for details.
